Just finished Metro: Last Light; interesting experience.
It can look very good, particularly the lighting. Yet, very little is done with the tech. Most of the levels have the same theme; very dark, very grey. It’s certainly not terrible art direction as it’s obvious that very talented people are behind everything. I simply found it way too suffocating, despite understanding that this was the intended effect.
Game-play wise, it’s much like the first one. Very little actually happens. I spent most of my time walking around while things happened to me; occasionally I got to shoot at something, but fights were brief and very small.
This is perhaps my fault, as I played on an easier difficulty level and I feel like much of the tension was lost on me. Other than a certain level where the level of terror I experienced was never previously matched by another game, most of the game was slow.
I am planning a second play-through on the hardest difficulty with no HUD to get closer to the experience the developers intended.
Overall, a solid game but it can be tedious.
